A Friend for Sugar

Being new to raising farm animals I tried to read up on nutrition, housing, all the things needed for caring for cattle. There was one thing I didn’t know, that cattle need friends of their own kind to be happy. It didn’t take long before I started scrolling through the Maryland Farmers Exchange group on Facebook looking for a friend for Sugar.

This was the picture posted for “Rosie” a heifer Jersey/Highland cross living in Frederick, MD.

I contacted the farmer who owned her and inquired why she was up for sale. Rosie was a beloved family pet, but they were going through a medical issue with the family and needed to downsize. She sounded pretty perfect. We arranged for delivery the following week.

After a few minutes of getting acquainted, Rosie and Sugar became fast friends.

Rosie has a huge personality, she is smart and curious about everything and always wants to help. A few pics below of Rosie being Rosie.

This is when we both fell completely in love with cattle.
